In 1936, Oregon awarded its 5 electoral votes to Roosevelt of the Democratic party. Oregon ended up on the winning side — Franklin D. Roosevelt captured the White House that year.

It marked the 2nd consecutive election in which Oregon backed the Democratic party, a streak reaching back to 1932. Oregon did not move alone — neighboring Washington, Idaho, Nevada, and California broke the same way in 1936.
