The 1932 contest saw New York line up behind Roosevelt, delivering 47 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. New York ended up on the winning side — Franklin D. Roosevelt captured the White House that year.

Roosevelt's win closed out New York's 4-election run of voting Republican. The region divided — New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts joined New York for the Democratic ticket, while Pennsylvania and Vermont did not. Across the 60 presidential elections New York has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Democratic party (29 times). The vote fell within the New Deal Coalition — FDR, civil rights, and the long Democratic majority.
