1928
New Hampshire in 1928
The 1928 contest saw New Hampshire line up behind Hoover, delivering 4 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. New Hampshire ended up on the winning side — Herbert Hoover captured the White House that year.
It marked the 4th consecutive election in which New Hampshire backed the Republican party, a streak reaching back to 1916. New Hampshire did not move alone — neighboring Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maine broke the same way in 1928. Across the 59 presidential elections New Hampshire has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (28 times). The vote fell within the Roaring Twenties — Republican dominance to the Great Depression.
In the national count, Herbert Hoover took 444 of the 531 electoral votes, against Al Smith's 87. Herbert Hoover led the national popular vote with 58.21% of the ballots cast.
