In 1900, Utah awarded its 3 electoral votes to Bryan of the Democratic party. The presidency went elsewhere: William McKinley (Republican) won nationally, while Utah had backed a different ticket.

Utah stayed in the Democratic column for the 2nd straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1896. The region divided — Idaho, Colorado, and Nevada joined Utah for the Democratic ticket, while Wyoming did not. The vote fell within the Progressive Era — Trust-busting, suffrage, and World War I.

Nationally, William McKinley finished with 292 of the 447 electoral votes to William Jennings Bryan's 155. William McKinley led the national popular vote with 51.64% of the ballots cast.
