1900
What happened in Oregon, 1900
In 1900, Oregon awarded its 4 electoral votes to McKinley of the Republican party. That placed Oregon with the eventual winner: William McKinley went on to take the presidency, and Oregon was part of his column.
Oregon stayed in the Republican column for the 5th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1884. The region divided — Washington and California joined Oregon for the Republican ticket, while Idaho and Nevada did not. Over its 42 recorded presidential cycles, Oregon has backed the Republican party more than any other — 23 times in all. The vote fell within the Progressive Era — Trust-busting, suffrage, and World War I.
Nationally, William McKinley finished with 292 of the 447 electoral votes to William Jennings Bryan's 155. William McKinley led the national popular vote with 51.64% of the ballots cast.
