Idaho in 1900

The 1900 contest saw Idaho line up behind Bryan, delivering 3 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. The presidency went elsewhere: William McKinley (Republican) won nationally, while Idaho had backed a different ticket.

Idaho stayed in the Democratic column for the 2nd straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1896. The region divided — Nevada, Utah, and Montana joined Idaho for the Democratic ticket, while Washington, Oregon, and Wyoming did not. Over its 34 recorded presidential cycles, Idaho has backed the Republican party more than any other — 23 times in all. The vote fell within the Progressive Era — Trust-busting, suffrage, and World War I.

Nationally, William McKinley finished with 292 of the 447 electoral votes to William Jennings Bryan's 155. William McKinley led the national popular vote with 51.64% of the ballots cast.
