1892
Reading the 1892 result in Nevada
Nevada backed Weaver (Populist) in the 1892 presidential election, casting 3 electoral votes for the ticket. Nationally the result broke the other way — Grover Cleveland (Democratic) won the presidency, leaving Nevada among the states he did not carry.
Weaver's win closed out Nevada's 7-election run of voting Republican. The region divided — Idaho joined Nevada for the Populist ticket, while California and Oregon did not. Across the 41 presidential elections Nevada has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (21 times). The vote fell within the Gilded Age — Industrialization, narrow margins, and patronage politics.
In the national count, Grover Cleveland took 277 of the 444 electoral votes, against Benjamin Harrison's 145. Grover Cleveland led the national popular vote with 46.02% of the ballots cast.
