The 2024 contest saw Louisiana line up behind Trump, delivering 8 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. That placed Louisiana with the eventual winner: Donald Trump went on to take the presidency, and Louisiana was part of his column.
Louisiana stayed in the Republican column for the 7th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 2000. Louisiana did not move alone — neighboring Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi broke the same way in 2024. Over its 53 recorded presidential cycles, Louisiana has backed the Democratic party more than any other — 29 times in all. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
Nationally, Donald Trump finished with 312 of the 538 electoral votes to Kamala Harris's 226. Donald Trump led the national popular vote with 49.8% of the ballots cast.
