In 2020, Wisconsin awarded its 10 electoral votes to Biden of the Democratic party. Wisconsin ended up on the winning side — Joe Biden captured the White House that year.
The result flipped Wisconsin away from the Republican it had supported in 2016. The region divided — Minnesota, Illinois, and Michigan joined Wisconsin for the Democratic ticket, while Iowa did not. Across the 45 presidential elections Wisconsin has taken part in, it has most often sided with the Republican party (24 times). The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
In the national count, Joe Biden took 306 of the 538 electoral votes, against Donald Trump's 232. Joe Biden led the national popular vote with 51.31% of the ballots cast.
