Wisconsin in 1992

The 1992 contest saw Wisconsin line up behind Clinton, delivering 11 electoral votes to the Democratic ticket. That placed Wisconsin with the eventual winner: Bill Clinton went on to take the presidency, and Wisconsin was part of his column.

Wisconsin stayed in the Democratic column for the 2nd straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1988. Wisconsin did not move alone — neighboring Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan broke the same way in 1992. Over its 45 recorded presidential cycles, Wisconsin has backed the Republican party more than any other — 24 times in all. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.

Nationally, Bill Clinton finished with 370 of the 538 electoral votes to George H. W. Bush's 168. Bill Clinton led the national popular vote with 43.01% of the ballots cast.
