1992
Kansas in 1992
The 1992 contest saw Kansas line up behind Bush, delivering 6 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. The presidency went elsewhere: Bill Clinton (Democratic) won nationally, while Kansas had backed a different ticket.
Kansas stayed in the Republican column for the 7th straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1968. The region divided — Nebraska and Oklahoma joined Kansas for the Republican ticket, while Missouri and Colorado did not. Over its 41 recorded presidential cycles, Kansas has backed the Republican party more than any other — 34 times in all. The vote fell within the Modern Polarization — Close elections in a divided country.
Nationally, Bill Clinton finished with 370 of the 538 electoral votes to George H. W. Bush's 168. Bill Clinton led the national popular vote with 43.01% of the ballots cast.
