Michigan stayed in the Republican column for the 2nd straight cycle, extending a run that began in 1972. The region divided — Indiana joined Michigan for the Republican ticket, while Ohio and Wisconsin did not. Over its 51 recorded presidential cycles, Michigan has backed the Republican party more than any other — 28 times in all.
